Milltown State Park
An accessible park at the confluence of the Blackfoot and Clark Fork rivers
Milltown State Park is a wheelchair accessible park featuring a paved path and river access trails just ten minutes from Missoula.
Features: Benches along the trail, picnic tables, fishing access, and an interpretive plaza with displays on the history and ecology of the area.
Accessibility info and site description: The main entrance has a gate that opens at 9am and closes at 5pm. The parking lot has 6 van-accessible parking spaces and an accessible public restroom. The trail is a wide, paved path. From the first entrance sign, follow the path 200 feet to the interpretive plaza, which has interpretive displays, covered picnic tables, and a great view of the landscape. Continue on the path to the left of the plaza to find a bench on the main trail overlooking the river. From here, the trail continues in both directions along the river. Continue on the trail to the left another 200 feet to find another bench and a wide gravel trail down to the river. The main path then goes under the interstate, railroad tracks, and frontage road, then winds up a hill to a second parking area across the street from the Bonner truck stop.
My experience: The number one thing to know about this location: it's right next to the interstate, so it can be very loud. Still, it's a beautiful view of this valley, and a nice accessible place to go for a walk or enjoy a picnic. It's a little hard to find this spot at first, so be sure to follow Google maps and look for the signs. There were only a few people here the couple of times I have visited, but I've heard it becomes a popular parking area in the summer for people floating the river.
Overall, Milltown State Park has great views and accessibility, but if you're looking for a little peace and quiet, this is not the spot for you!
